About us

Film Cutters is based in Germiston, Ekurhuleni and works with packing teams that need cleaner film application and less waste on the line. Since 2008, we have supported factories, warehouses and distribution sites across South Africa with practical cutter and dispenser solutions.

About us

A Germiston team built around packing line reality

Film Cutters started in 2008 with a simple aim: help South African packing lines handle shrink film and stretch film with more control, less strain, and fewer stoppages. From our base in Germiston, we work with operations in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Polokwane, Boksburg and Midrand, as well as sites that need support in between. Our work is not about selling equipment and leaving it at that. It is about understanding how a line actually runs, where film gets wasted, and where operators lose time during changeovers or breaks in production.

We know many sites are dealing with tight production targets, staff changes, load-shedding, and the extra wear that comes with dust, heat and coastal humidity. A cutter or dispenser has to suit the conditions on the floor, not just the spec sheet. That is why we take a practical approach from the first enquiry through to installation and aftercare.

What we stand for on every site visit

Our values are straightforward. We believe in reliable equipment, clear advice, and service that keeps things moving. We also believe that small improvements matter. A better blade, a steadier dispenser, or a correct setup can save film, reduce wrapping time and make daily work easier for operators. That kind of change is often small on paper, but it shows up quickly on the floor.

We treat every site with the same care, whether it is a single packing station or a busy line feeding pallets for national distribution. Our team is careful about safety, neat workmanship and proper handover. If a site needs help with line setup or a quick adjustment after a production change, we try to respond in a way that makes sense for the site and the schedule. No fuss, no excuses, just proper support.

  • Practical advice based on packing line use
  • Equipment suited to everyday operator handling
  • Attention to safety, service life and ease of use
  • Support for both planned work and urgent callouts

How we support packing teams from enquiry to handover

Our work usually begins with a site question. Some teams need a replacement cutter, others want to reduce film damage, and some need help setting up a new packing area. We look at the current process, the type of film in use, the pace of the line, and the conditions on site before recommending an approach. If a business has multiple shifts or several packing points, we can also assess how the solution will perform across the full day, not just during quiet hours.

Once the plan is agreed, we handle onsite installation, line setup, preventive servicing and roll change support. We also supply spares, arrange blade replacement, and carry out safety checks so the equipment stays ready for daily use. Where needed, we provide operator training and simple guidance that helps the team use the cutter or dispenser correctly from the start. The goal is always the same: less downtime and a smoother packing process.

The people behind the service

Film Cutters is led by Thabo Maseko, Managing Director, with support from a team that covers sales, technical work, coordination and site support. Naledi Khumalo looks after sales enquiries and helps clients choose the right solution for their packing line needs. Johan van Wyk handles technical matters and makes sure equipment is fitted and working correctly. Ayanda Dlamini coordinates service work, Michelle Naidoo keeps operations organised, and Pieter Smit supports field work on site.

We work as a small team, which means clients do not get passed around without reason. A customer in Durban dealing with a dispenser fault or a plant in Polokwane needing a blade replacement can speak to people who understand the equipment and the site pressure. That makes communication simpler and response times better. It also helps us keep track of what has been done, what still needs attention, and what should be planned for next.

Why businesses call us for film handling problems

Many packing issues start with the same few symptoms: uneven film application, wastage at changeover, blade wear, dispenser faults, or operators struggling with equipment that is awkward to use. We focus on solving those practical issues with solutions that fit the line and the people using it. A good cutter or dispenser should support speed and control without creating extra steps for the team.

Because we work across different industries and locations, we understand that each site has its own pace and constraints. A warehouse in Germiston may need quick support for a busy dispatch floor, while a coastal site in Cape Town may need closer attention to corrosion and maintenance intervals. In Johannesburg or Pretoria, a high volume operation might need spare planning and regular checks to avoid interruptions. We keep the advice grounded in what the site actually faces, not in theory.

We also know that many businesses want longer service life from the equipment they already have. That is where servicing, parts supply and upgrades come in. Sometimes the best answer is not a full replacement, but a better setup and proper preventive care.

How we work with South African conditions in mind

South African packing sites do not run in ideal conditions every day. Power interruptions can affect schedules, shifts may have to adapt quickly, and some areas face dust, vibration or humidity that shortens equipment life. We keep those realities in mind when recommending cutter and dispenser solutions. If a site needs support during a breakdown, or wants a planned service visit to reduce future interruptions, we aim to work in a way that fits the production window.

Our base in Germiston gives us a practical starting point for work across Ekurhuleni and beyond. We support businesses in Boksburg, Midrand and the larger Gauteng area, and we also travel to clients further afield when the job calls for it. For us, the real measure of good service is simple: the line keeps moving, the operators feel confident, and the film is handled properly day after day. That is the standard we work to, and we keep it steady.
